Quite possibly, actually, most definitely my favourite part of downtown LA was our visit to The Broad.

This private collection of modern art of extraordinary contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons and Lichtenstein really sparks a fire in terms of thinking about the human relationship with consumerism and popular culture. Whether you love it or hate it consumerism pervades our lives from every angle and the artwork (as good artwork does) implores you to think about your own problems with spending, star stalking and loving exteriors.
The museum itself is an incredible piece of artwork and it takes you getting up close to it for you to appreciate the intricacies of the woven exterior which looks like a giant basket of woven fettuccine or Danish pastry casing a glass curtain wall and sparse modernist interior. My favourite part was the natural lighting that was designed so carefully as to not cast shadows on the artwork but create an ambient lighting inside.

The stair wells were also intriguing, like descending a mysterious winding cave with expectations high as to what would be found at the end. Also loved the batman style central elevator that reminded me of a MONA Tasmania experience I also had.

Outside the old olive trees twisted and contorted to provide a shady oasis from the LA Heat.
Make sure you buy tickets in advance to avoid queuing up!
Next door the Walt Disney Concert Hall was also next level. That stainless steel shimmering like silver sails on an oversize pirate ship. From every angle it looked like a different building. I loved that about it.

Make sure you walk all around it and run your palms over its smooth and hot exterior. You actually won’t be able to resist touching it to see if it is real or an oasis. Gehry you really created a treat.
